Fly by!

May 25th, 2008

Dear Aviation Enthusiast:

Columbia Airport would like to invite you to participate in this year’s 42nd Annual Father's Day Fly-In Saturday, June 14th which celebrates Homebuilt and Light Sport Aircraft. In an effort to showcase Homebuilt and Light Sport Aircraft we will have special display parking for you on our main ramp. Our goal is to provide a variety of makes and models of these aircraft so our Fly-In attendees can see the options available in today’s aviation market. The Fly-In will provide a gift bag to all pilots displaying their aircraft to show our appreciation of your participation.

Pilots see NOTAMs here

Tower There will be a temporary tower in effect on Saturday. The temporary tower will be operated from 8 AM to 4 PM. The tower frequency will be 127.9 and the ground frequency will be 121.05. Please check the NOTAMS before you fly in. The Airport will be closed on Saturday from Noon to 3 PM for flight demonstrations. Friday arrivals will have an opportunity to select better tiedowns and campsites in addition to being invited to our $5.00 early bird, “burger burn” beginning at 6:00 p.m. on the main ramp. Saturday’s events will start with pancake breakfast served by Tuolumne County Aeronautical Association (TCAA) beginning at 7:00 a.m. at the Campground Pavilion. The rest of the day will feature fly-bys, aircraft displays, aircraft judging, and flight demonstrations. Saturday night we will have a Tri-Tip dinner beginning at 5:30 PM at the Aero Resources Hangar. Awards will be presented at 6:30 PM followed by music from the classic rock and rhythm and blues band “Chains Required”.

Those spending Saturday night in Columbia can attend a second TCAA pancake breakfast Sunday morning at the Campground Pavilion which will begin at 7:00 AM. As mentioned earlier, the flour bombing and spot landing contest will be held Sunday and all contestants must be sign-up by 10 AM.

There is a lot of space available in the campground for those that like to pitch a tent. Camping under your wing is also allowed. Our overnight camping fee is $8 per night.
